Community Benefits

Our plans for Phoenix Yard have been developed with the aim of positively contributing to Digbeth’s ongoing transformation into a thriving and active part of Birmingham with an approach that will generate significant social and economic value for the local area.

Our proposals promise to:

  • Deliver a meaningful contribution to Birmingham City Council’s housing needs, with essential new homes delivered on site
  • Support wider ambitions for the area by delivering a scheme with the potential to create media, education, and commercial space alongside new residential apartments which will complement the currently being constructed BBC Midlands HQ and recently approved Smithfield Masterplan.
  • As part of the first phase of the development, deliver space which could accommodate media units and education space for start-ups, SMEs, and larger companies associated with the BBC Midlands HQ ecosystem. This will result in these spaces supporting both the BBC’s growth and that of its ecosystem companies.
  • Further support Birmingham City Council’s ambition to regenerate the area and catalyse further development, investment, and growth.
  • Positively contribute to local ambitions to grow the area as a liveable, green and active location in Birmingham though the residential element of the plans, while further strengthening the connection between Digbeth and the city centre core.
  • The residents and workers’ daily needs would be supported by the café and retail provision delivered through the scheme, along with nearby local shops and businesses. Together this will provide an important boost to the local economy by encouraging the ‘Local Pound’.
  • The regeneration could provide a meaningful boost to the city’s economy, potentially creating circa 200 jobs during construction with further economic benefits in the wider supply chain. New long-term job opportunities will also be generated through a dynamic range of commercial activity across Phoenix Yard.
  • The site has the potential to create upwards of 500 FTE jobs depending on the specific details brought forward.
  • Taken together, Phoenix Yard will help drive social and economic growth in Digbeth and Birmingham city centre.

We are keen to hear the views of the local community on the proposals. If you would like to leave your feedback, please use the Have Your Say form to provide your comments...
